In the week that pop sensation Prince died life in Fethiye continued.
National Sovereignty and Children’s Day Celebrated
Turkey celebrated National Sovereignty and Children’s Day on Saturday with various events around the country.
In Fethiye the Mayor and citizens received a surprise when the call centre greeting was changed to that of eight year old Ecrin Divarcı (pictured above) who recorded the message earlier that week.
The Mayor told the press that April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day is a special day in the annual calendar when we celebrate our young people. Citizens calling 444 90 82 would be greeted by Ecrin Divarcı to mark the day.
The Fethiye Mayor Behçet Saatçi also welcomed other little guests throughout the day.
Students from the 4th grade at Karaçulha Elementary 4th school visited the municipality and helped out.

The outlook for the 2016 season maybe down as tourist choose alternative destinations but that’s not stopping Fethiye getting ready for the new season.
Last week a tractor with a special sand cleaning attachment worked along Calis Beach.
The attachment sieved the sand to remove detritus and return clean sand ready for the sunbeds and tourists.
Elsewhere around 50 volunteers (pictured above) donned gloves and picked up litter around the bay’s of Fethiye.
The event was led by TURMEPA.
Lucky Escape for Paraglider
And in more Fethiye news a 23 year old solo Paraglider cheated death last week when he crashed after taking off from the world famous Babadag mountain, Fethiye, Turkey.
According to local reports the paragliders chute folded shortly after he took off from the 1800m launch site and he tumbled onto the rocks below falling just short of a sheer cliff edge.
The UMKE medical team rescued the man and he was taken to Fethiye state hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Sisters are doin it for Themselves
A headline in the Fethiye news press last week that stated ‘Men are Forbidden to join’ caught our attention last week.
The story was all about a women only walking group that has been exploring the area over the last three years.
The 80 strong group is made up of a broad cross section of local women from all backgrounds who pull on their walking boots and go off into the mountains and coast to enjoy the company, fresh air and views.
A member of the group told the press who had accompanied them for one of their walks that the group is a great opportunity to network and exercise a nice pace.
Tour to Roll Out of Town
Stage 7 of the Tour of Turkey that started on Saturday in Istanbul will roll out from Fethiye on Saturday 30 April.
The riders will race the 128km from Fethiye to Marmaris.
The race finishes on Sunday at Selcuk near Izmir and the ruins of Ephesus.
The British Pound started to recover some of the value it has lost over the last few weeks as BREXIT fears dominated traders positions.
The British Pound bought 4.10 TL by the close of trading on Friday up around 10 kurüs on the week before.
The will be a few Spring showers early in the week but they will clear to bright and warm weather.
