Basking in a mini heatwave
In a week when areas of the UK were drying out from Storm Desmond and people generally getting ready for Christmas in chilly temperatures Fethiye was enjoying a mini heatwave.
The local press reported that temperatures in the day were hitting 18 degrees centigrade and that families were enjoying the opportunity to picnic on the beaches and forest parks.
Second Gocek Tunnel to Open in Early 2016
The head of the Fethiye region highways authority told reports last week that construction of the second tunnel has been progressing well and that it would open in early 2016.
The second tunnel will offer a new one-way dual lane option to avoid the three and half km winding road that goes over the hills.
The second Gocek tunnel will be free so will halve the current cost of a return trip through the tunnel.
But the first tunnel that was opened in 2009 will still levy a toll which is currently 3.50 TL for small vehicles each way.
Fethiye Twinned with German District Council
A delegation of officials including members of Fethiye Council and the Mayor Behçet Saatcı attended a twinning ceremony in the town of Gelhausen, Germany last week.
Fethiye Council has twinned with the German ‘Main-Kinzig-Kreis, German rural district.
The twinning agreement can be seen below.
The main economic benefits of the twinning are expected to be tourism.
Fethiye To Attend Berlin Tourism Fair
Fethiye will be represented at the Berlin Tourism Fair in early March it was announced last week.
Weather For the Week Ahead
It looks like a calm and sunny but cooler week ahead.
Night time temperatures could be freezing at higher altitudes.
The British Pound bought 4.54 TL at the end of the week.
A Turkish Lira was worth 22 pence.
