Republic Day Marked in Fethiye
Republic Day on 29 October was marked by a number of events.
In the Fethiyespor stadium thousands of children took part in activities to mark the day of which the highlight was when they formed a human Turkish flag in the centre of the pitch.
Mugla City Orchestra performed in Fethiye Beşkaz Square.
The 33 piece orchestra played notable music from Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, Bizet’s Carmen Suite No. 1, Lully’n’s Turkish March, Mozart’s 25th Symphony.
The event ended with the national anthem.
Under the sea divers were photographed displaying the Turkish flag to mark the event.
In the skies Paragliders flees with large flags suspended from their chutes.
Migrants Rescued From Yacht
Some 69 migrants including 18 children where rescued by the Turkish Coastguard last week.
The local press reported that the migrants were aboard a British flagged 10 metre yacht but that it had started to take on water and they raised a distress signal.
The Coastguard responded.
The boat was towed back to the Coastguard jetty in Fethiye where the local press were waiting with their video cameras.
The press published footage of the migrants, many of whom concealed their faces from the cameras, as they sat on the concrete floor in a shelter waiting to be picked up by the Jandarma.
The General election was held on Sunday.
During the week when the clocks did not go back in Turkey candidates have been out and about canvassing voters.
However, the usual campaigning via loudspeaker vans was notable by its absence.
By Sunday evening with most votes counted the President of Turkey was hailing victory for the AK Party.
The final results will be issued when all votes have been counted and confirmed.
Body Recovered from Bay
The body of a 52 year old man was recovered from Fethiye Bay last week.
The body was discovered by a person who was fishing off rocks.
Authorities identified the person from their national identity card.
Air Ambulance Takes Baby to Antalya
A three day old baby girl was airlifted from Fethiye to Antalya last week when her doctor found she had respiratory problems.
The air ambulance is a speedy way to transport patients with critical medical conditions to the specialist hospitals in Antalya cutting out the 3 hour trip it would take by road.
The Turkish Lira ended the week at 4.50 TL to the British Pound.
Monday’s election result will no doubt see a spike in the value of the Turkish currency as the markets react to the new government.
It was a wonderful end to the week with fine and sunny weather. But what does next week have in store?
