In our Monday news roundup we wrote about the sad death last week of a young soldier, Adnan Ergen, from Seydikemer and the outpouring of grief expressed in Fethiye, Seydikemer and the surrounding region.
We mistakenly reported that the young martyr’s father had succumbed to the shock of his son’s death but must stress that this information was not correct. The grieving father is still very much alive and he and his wife were able to attend the Fethiyespor football match against Bandırmanspor last Saturday, during which the club and supporters honoured his martyred son and paid respects to his family.
Many of the fans wore either the Turkish national team shirt or other red tops; the waving of hundreds of Turkish flags it made for a very moving and emotional atmosphere for all who attended.
Upon request, we immediately removed the erroneous report and once again wish to offer our heartfelt condolences to the Ergen family, apologize for our error, and the upset we have caused the family at this tragic time.
