The AKP lost its 13-year hold on power in the June 7 polls, falling 18 seats short from a ruling majority in the 550-member parliament in Ankara.
Talks to form a coalition government over the summer failed to reach agreement so it looks like a new general election will be held, possibly on 1st November 2015.
Turkish Lira Joins flight from Emerging Market Currencies
The world currency markets continued their selling off of emerging market currencies such as the Turkish Lira last week.
The Turkish currency reached new lows against the British Pound and U.S. Dollar.
At one point the British Pound bought 4.69 Turkish Lira.
The weakening of the currency to such low levels is likely to have a knock on effect to the wider economy too as the country buys in resources such as oil, gas and other commodities at dollar rates.
Citizens could therefore see their energy bills as well as the cost of imported goods rocket this autumn in response.
City Dreams Rekindled
After weeks of silence the big push to make Fethiye a city looks like it’s back on the cards.
The mayor was featured in the local press last week saying that he has written to the “president of cities” requesting that a referendum is held so the people can decice decide.
He has asked that the referendum question is included on the ballot paper of the 1st November general election.
We await the outcome.

Back to School Delayed
Great news for kids but maybe not so for parents last week when the press announced that the date when the kids return to school for the new term is to be extended.
Schools where due to go back on the 7th September 2015.
The press reported that the education minister had reconsidered the date following representations about the poor tourism season due to terrorism fears.
It is hoped the extended holiday will encourage more citizens to take a break away and revive the tourism sector.
Return to school was quoted as having been moved to the 28th September after the Kurban Bayram holiday.
The next holiday will be 25th January to 5th February 2016.
The 2015/16 academic year will end on 10th June 2016.
The week head looks hot and fine.
