First Fethiye Race For Life
A first for Turkey and Fethiye the Race for Life, a charitable sporting event to raise money for cancer research, took place in Fethiye on a sunny Sunday.
Hundreds of people took part in the event many wearing the distinctive red coloured T-shirts specially made for the event.

Fethiye to Welcome Cyclists
This years Presidential Bike Race will visit Fethiye again with the 4th leg leaving Fethiye on the 132 km leg to Marmaris on 29th April.

Mushroom Festival A Great Success
The annual Yeşil Üzümlü mushroom festival opened on Friday.
The opening ceremony included speeches from the Fethiye Mayor and Governor.
The three day festival included music, dance, food and of course mushroom hunting.
The festival closed on Sunday to a concert of traditional Turkish folk music.

First Farmers Exhibition Opened in Fethiye
Fethiyes' first farmers show and exhibition opened on Thursday.
The event held at the Karaçulha wholesale market included displays of crops, equipment, examples of planting and farming process and more.
The Big Spring Clean
The big spring clean continued last week with Gocek joining in.
Beaches were combed and cleaned and litter bagged for removal.
You can be a part of the big spring clean too.
On Sunday April 19th, the children from Calis Kids Club will be joined by the children from Gunlukbasi and surrounding areas at Calis Beach to pick up rubbish and at the same time learn why it is so important to treat our Earth, and particularly our lovely beach with respect.
We will collect rubbish together and make a relevant art project from whatever we find!
The organisers hope to have a representative from TEMA to give a short speech and add to the support given by the Muhtar of Gunlukbasi, Calis Boat Co-op, Calis Guzellerstirme Dernegi and Carole and Guven of Guvens Restaurant.
The event starts at 11am at the Yoruk Tent/Sat end of the beach.
The organisers hope the event will show the next generation that they need to take care of the environment before it is too late.
Paragliding Pilot Motorcyclist Died
Last week a popular paragliding pilot Can Verdi was killed when he and his Enduro style motorbike were in collision with a refuse vehicle in Fethiye.
The local press reported that the collision happened at 17:30 on Çarşı Caddesi.
Video stills of the collision were taken from a security camera and published.
Can who was 32 was, according to the press, to marry his fiancé in the next few weeks.
Police are investigating the collision.
Two students were rescued from Afkule Monastery by the local mountain rescue team AKUT last week.
The two had set off to walk along the path to the Monastery but became disorientated.
The local press said that the couple walked for 3 and a half hours but as night fell lost, thirty and hungry they raised the alarm.
The AKUT team were on the scene by 22:00 and managed to locate and rescue the couple.
Spring Snow and a Tornado
Snow and a tornado all in one week.
Towards the end of the week a cold snap engulfed the area and a significant amount of snow fell on Babadag and the high mountains.
The snow blocked the roads to Antalya and on the Yayla.
Meanwhile a mini tornado cut through a village near Mugla demolishing a few buildings and generally spreading anything that was not tied down around the local area.
The British Pound bought 3.85 Turkish Lira by the close of business on Friday.
a Turkish Lira was therefore worth 26 pence.
