Having storks nesting in your neighbourhood leads to photo opportunities like this – who could resist the lone stork poised on the telephone pole?

However, whilst the birds do make for great photos, they are also good at not posing for the photo you really want.

Whilst the fledglings are learning to fly they use the nest as a take-off and landing point.

This summer we tried in vain to get a photo of all five young together – we failed. But we did manage the next best thing, four of them.

And now they’re gone.
