Dogs housed in Fethiye’s Animal Welfare Centre have a new element in their diet.

As peak temperature hit 44 degrees, the dogs are being given ice cream as a cooling treat.

This happens daily at around 1pm, the hottest time of day, and apparently visitors are already getting into the act and turning up at 1pm with ice cream to feed to the dogs.

An on-site vet said:

“Every day around 1pm we let the dogs bathe in the stream and then they get ice cream. We see no ill effects from this, indeed the dogs love the cool ice cream.”
