Twenty years have passed since a group of local movers and shakers came together to see how they could best encourage the development of arts, culture and community spirit in Fethiye; the town they loved.
The result was the Tourism, Promotion, Education, Culture and Environment Foundation, better known these days as FETAV, which has now become a vital and crucial keystone in Fethiye’s growing cultural and social scene.
This is a special year for everyone in Fethiye, whether they know it or not or have even heard of FETAV.
All the local charities, arts and cultural activities in the town are only able to exist and thrive because of it.
To celebrate FETAV’s 20th anniversary there will be a Ball at Kalepark Restaurant on Friday 29th August, to which everyone is cordially invited.
All funds raised during the evening will be used for the promotion of FETAV and their important work.
A special evening for Fethiye
This special evening is being organised by FETAV with the help of FIG, 3C’s, Animal Aid and other local groups.
Together they will be making sure that the evening will be full of fun and surprises, including music, dancing, performers, an auction, a raffle and many other activities.
The celebrations will start at 8pm and continue until midnight.
There will be a painting auctioned at the event, which is the work of Hale Küçükarslan Eralp. Originally from Istanbul Hale came to live in Fethiye 10 years ago, following her retirement.
She is self-taught, has had many exhibitions and has been one of the artists that have brought talent and enthusiasm to the town’s Arts and Culture Festival.
Her painting is 100 x 80cm and will enhance any home or office. There is a reserve price of 750TL (€260, £210, US$347) and 100% of the sale proceeds will go to FETAV.
The auctioneer for the evening will be British resident and organiser of Fethiye’s Race for Life (Turkey), George Rimmer.
If you would like to place a bid before the 29th August please email Dilek Dincer at FETAV. The email address is email@example.com.
Food and drink
There will be food (meze, köfte, kebabs, chicken, börek etc) and a range of soft and alcoholic drinks for sale on the evening, all at very reasonable prices.
As this is event is described as a ball on the posters, it’s a great excuse to dress up but don’t worry, it’s not essential!
Tickets and Transport
Tickets cost 25TL each and are being sold at FETAV and 3Cs, FIG and Animal Aid’s shops. Minibuses (dolmuş) from Çalış will be organised leaving Kerim Hotel at 19:30. The return fare is 6TL.
Transport from Ölüdeniz will leave at 19:30 from the municipality building at the roundabout in Hisarönü. The return fare is 8TL.
Both minibuses will take passengers up to and collect from Kalepark.
The buses back to Çalış and Ölüdeniz will be at 12 midnight.
All money raised during the evening will be for the benefit of FETAV.
What is FETAV?
FETAV is a non-profit making foundation for the promotion of tourism, education, culture and environmental issues in Fethiye.
Since its launch in 1994 it has undertaken, facilitated and supported many important projects in the charitable sector, cultural and social life of the town.
Over the last ten years the foundation has also encouraged and supported the Yunus Nadi Journalism Competition (and annual event popular with local school students), the International Culture and Arts Festival and more recently the International World Music Festival.
Furthermore, without FETAV there would be no FIG, 3Cs, Animal Aid, Soma Tomorrow, Race For Life (Turkey), Embrace or other charitable activities. FETAV is also the ‘umbrella organisation’ under which all the official concerts, theatre and other cultural events in Fethiye, are permitted.
And all of this is provided by FETAV free of charge.
The structure of FETAV
The President of FETAV is the Kaymakam, Ekrem Çalık and the Vice-President is Behçet Saatcı but the team that can usually be found in the office on a day-to-day basis comprises:
