Did you know that Mugla is home to more than 190 historical sites from different civilisations and cultures? The Mugla Governor, Temel Kocaklar, has confirmed that there will is a total of 11 scientific, 7 rescue and 6 surface excavations taking place in Mugla during 2006.

The Governor said that these scientific archeological excavations will enlighten our historical and cultural knowledge of the Carian and Lycian civilizations for the benefit of national and international historians and scientists as well as for the benefit of future generations.

Some of the excavations have already started and the others will start shortly. Assisting in the work are historians and scientists from France, Italy and Sweden.
