Fethiye is already a popular destination with holidaymakers looking for a relaxing beach holiday and, more recently, has become a firm favourite with walkers for its dramatic coastal trek, the Lycian Way.

While local tourism companies organise trips to various local sites, for the more independent traveller, hiring a car can provide a more self-sufficient option to explore Fethiye on the roads less travelled.

Fethiye Driving Tour – Explore and See the Real Area

For example, to the north of Fethiye is Iztuzu, a beach famous for Loggerhead turtles and in the mountains behind Fethiye there is a village famous in the area for its cherries.

There are also historic sites that the tour buses can’t reach and villages where life remains pretty much untouched by tourism.

Fethiye Driving Tour – Taste the Real Fethiye

Three years ago, Taste of Fethiye, a collaborative project between the Travel Foundation, Co-operative Travel, Tui UK & Ireland, First Choice Travel and Thomas Cook, local businesses and farmers to encourage sustainable tourism in the area, came up with a great idea to inspire the curious, self-sufficient, tourist when it published Explore Fethiye with Village Driving Routes; a booklet, offering some different ways to spend a day, and to discover more about the region.
