Bored and need some ideas of things to do? Here are a few ideas from playing the saz to learning the language.

Folk Music

Fethiye Guzel Sanatlar Dernegi is supported by the Municipality to encourage traditional folk music and dance. Their premises are located in a traditional house next to the Fire Station in Fethiye (1st building on the left looking at the Fire Station). Players meet to practice playing the tradition Saz throughout the week and dancers to practice too. The centre offers Saz beginners courses on Sundays (for a small fee). Drop in and ask to be included.

They are also interested in setting up a foreigners group of musicians to help celebrate different styles of music and promote traditional Turkish music. Contact us if you want to join the group.

Learn Turkish

If you plan to live here, learning the language opens up a whole range of new friendships and opportunities to socialise. The Fethiye International Group (FIG) offers a number of courses during the year starting with beginners and working through. These courses are very popular so get your name on their list a.s.a.p. However, if learning in a group isn't your thing you can employ one of the numerous private teachers to teach you in your own home.

Quiz Nights

Every Monday and Thursday at the Frenken Kosem Restaurant, Tuzla, Fethiye - just up the road away from the sea by the fountain on the promenade. Quiz starts at 8:45 p.m. Winners get a free drink. Entrance fee 50 korus.
