Interview with Expat Harem Authors Part 3

We recently posted a story about the authors of Expat Harem and their US tour. Now Fethiye Times interviews them to find out how it went.

Jennifer Gokmen and Anastasia Ashman are the co authors of this years great read, Tales from the Expat Harem, a book all about women living in contemporary Turkey. Fethiye Times has interviewed the due about their US Tour and this is the final article.

As you know Fethiye Times is a UK-based site, are there plans to publish Tales from the Expat Harem in the UK?

AA: We certainly do plan to publish in the UK as well as other European countries and other nations worldwide. More than 60 European publishers have  expressed interest in the book at the last Frankfurt Book Fair but even so,  the foreign-rights submission process takes a long time-for each country,  one publisher at a time exclusively considers the book.

Tales from the  Expat Harem is currently being submitted to UK publishers by our British  agent Arabella Stein and we look forward to good news.  The British literary  magazine Mslexia has commissioned an article from us about the making of the  anthology for its fall 2006 issue so perhaps this will bring the book to the  attention of more British readers and publishing world professionals. Every  little bit helps!

JG: We're also grateful that Britons like archaeologist and cultural tour  operator Peter Sommer have begun recommending Expat Harem. Sommer, best  known for tracing the 2,000 mile Anatolian march of Alexander the Great for  the BBC, has placed Expat Harem on his suggested reading list for travelers  to Turkey. Of course, we're very much looking forward to an eventual UK book  tour and we welcome suggestions from Fethiye Times readers who think their  home towns would be a good place for us to visit! Many of us expats living  in Turkey know how hard it can be to convince friends and family back home  what a welcoming place Turkey is.

Our strength is in our numbers. We wouldn't  all be living here if the country didn't have something wonderful to offer.
