Ovacik Museum

Ovacık now has a small museum in a building at the back of the Cultural Centre which, as you ought to know, is housed in the old school on the main road.

The Museum comprises three small rooms the first of which contains displays of scenes from traditional Turkish village life, complete with an explanatory booklet in English and Turkish.  Entrance to the Museum and the booklet, are both free.  The numbers on the display match with descriptions of specific tasks/events in the booklet.

Having visited the Museum, you will certainly understand some of the more esoteric objects you’ll have seen decorating restaurants and bars.  Indeed, the scene labelled ‘Making Village Flat Bread’ is familiar to anyone who has ever eaten a Turkish pancake.  What’s more, the aging member of Fethiye Times who first came to Turkey in the late 1960s remembers the wooden threshing boards being sold on the market, and saw them in use many times.  So, if you do visit the Museum, and we hope you will, reflect on how Turkey has changed in the past 40 years.
