Pelicans Take Up Winter Residence
The pair of Pelicans that arrived last spring have now found a new winter home in Fethiye complete with heating.
The pair can now be seen in the Kordon restaurant by the fish and chip boats warming themselves by the wood burner.
As our photos show the pair now enjoy a close relationship with the cafe owner.
The Dalmatian Pelicans (Pelecanus crispus) are the largest of the Pelican species and weigh between 11kgs and 15kgs and have a wing span of 170cm.
They are within the ‘threatened’ category of birds which means they are considered to be facing a high risk of extinction in the wild because of loss of habitat and hunting.

If you would like to see the Pelicans they are normally on the prom near to the ‘fish and chip’ boats.
To get there cross the road from the market site direction where the river flows into the sea and head towards the war memorial.

About half way along is the Kordon Cafe and they should be around there, in the sea, perched on a boat or in the cafe warming themselves by the wood burner.
