Kar in Kars – Part 2

Yes, folks, on Day 2 in Kars, Thursday 19th March it has snowed (‘kar’ in Turkish).

In fact it snowed all morning and lent a very festive feel to the Dance Group’s stroll around town.

Here you see one member of the Dance Group taking a photo of Coskun Karabulut – who runs the Ovacık Sanat Ev.

Kars was Russian territory from around 1870 until 1917.

As a result there are still many impressive stone buildings around erected by the Russians.

The majority of them are gradually falling down but some have been refurbished and are in use.

Below is the official Art Gallery and Museum which has been beautifully restored.

Today has been an official ‘day off’ and tomorrow the Group could be performing for the first time in Sarıkamış – the ski resort some 35 miles away which the Dance Group visited in February last year.

This time we will get there by train on the branch which connects a whole string of villages and Sarıkamış itself to the provincial capital of Kars.
