Kutahya

This ancient city is about 330 miles from Fethiye and famous for its production of traditional Turkish tile. By road you drive to Denizli, Afyon and then Kutahya, which also lies on the train network.

However, we went purely to buy tile and it was well worth the trip. It is difficult to buy Turkish tiles in Fethiye as they are sold as souvenirs, so are only stocked in small quantities in a limited range of designs. Furthermore the 20cm square tile that cost 4YTL in Hisaronu last summer is only 1.5YTL at the manufacturers’ showroom in Kutahya. Buy in large quantities and it could work out even cheaper.
