Spring has definitely sprung and now is the time to get out and about – by car or on foot – to see the amazing range of wild flowers in the area and bask in the sunshine in the midst of glorious, fresh countryside.

{mosimage}Fethiye Times packed a picnic and drove the dirt road along the far side of the river from Yaniklar recently.  The road eventually (33km later) emerges in Gocek and passes through bare mountainside, lush green pastures, forests and always with a river in view, gurgling along with the contribution of recent rain and snowmelt.   On the way we saw Bee Orchids, French Lavender, Iris and Euphorbia of several varieties, and other plants we can’t even name.  Even the common daisy provides a feast for the eyes with its bright white flowers contrasting with the green grass and grey rocks.

About half way to Gocek there is a waterfall that descends to a small, deep pool and we stopped here to picnic.  Lit a small fire, roasted our sucuk and enjoyed it with bread and salads.  Homemade cake and fruit finished off a memorable meal. 

{mosimage}After lunch we continued along the dirt road, passing through a forest where ferns had colonised a dead tree and finally emerging at Karacaoren to find the village enveloped in a froth of white almond blossom.
