A Trip to the East – Part 4
Another day’s stay in Urfa allowed the group the chance to visit Harran, a mere ten miles or so from the Syrian border.
This whole area is full of biblical references and Harran is where Abraham met his wife and lived before going to Palestine.
Until fairly recent times this region was famed for its bee-hive shaped houses.
Nowadays most inhabitants are refugees from Iraq who make a living selling trinkets to tourists, and the group drank tea in one of the bee-hive houses.
A local guide took them to the site where Abraham is said to have lived and also showed them the remains of a very large church.
