We all know people who make the journey to Meis every 90 days to renew their visa, but this writer recently took guests from UK across for a day trip, and it was lovely. 

Meis, properly called Kastellorizo, is a lovely, quiet Greek island a short boat ride from Kaş. 

The small harbour is lined with cafes, restaurants and shops and it is very easy to while away time over a leisurely lunch (comprised of pork products) and then get back on the boat after a quick trip to the Duty Free.

If the Greek ferry for Rhodes comes in while you’re there you are in for a treat as this boat dwarfs the harbour, ties up for a mere fifteen minutes or so to disgorge passengers and vehicle, then performs the seemingly impossible feat of turning on the spot to exit again.
 
The back streets of the small town are fascinating and you can even opt to visit the Museum – if you can face the long stone stairs you have to climb to get there.

Our party included an 82-year-old who had never been to Greece – now he can tell all his friends he has added another country to the list of those visited in his long life. 

The boat fare is only 40TL return and if you haven’t got a car you need to catch the 7.30am bus to Kaş from Fethiye.

Definitely an excellent alternative day out for frequent visitors from UK.
