Antalya – Introduction

We know some of our regular readers who live in and around Fethiye, are already familiar with the delights of Antalya, but we are sure there are some of you out there who have to sample everything the fastest growing city in Turkey has to offer.

Thanks to improvements on the Yayla road (the route over the mountains) you can now drive from Fethiye to Antalya in 2 – 3 hours and the bus, a bargain at 18TL one way, only takes 3.5 hours.

The best way to get around the city (until the tramway is working – more on that later) is by car.

Antalya is a huge, sprawling city so be prepared to go around in circles and get lost, but you can get a free city map from your car hire company (if you’re hiring) or from any Tourist Information Office.

There do seem to be a lot of buses but we haven’t used them so can’t comment on their routes or cost – if any reader does know about buses in Antalya, please pass on your knowledge.

In the meantime we’ve put together a series of articles to introduce you to various aspects of life in Antalya.  We’ll start with the alleged scandal surrounding the tramway – coming soon.
