If you live in or near Fethiye, or just visit for a holiday, you will already know that there are some very special
sounds to be heard in this part of the world, whatever the time of year, that add to the natural
beauty of the area.
A day in a life with sounds
This week we are sharing some of the sounds that can be heard in a valley that isn’t so far away from the
busy towns and villages but nevertheless feels as if it is in another world and time.
Turn up the volume or wear headphones to enjoy the full effect!
A hidden valley with its own soundtrack
To begin with there seems to be nothing but silence in our tree-lined mountain valleys
but when you stop still and listen a collage of sound appears:
A heard of goats on the mountainside, their bleating echoing across the valley.
As the goats get closer, their bells become louder.
Chickens chatting away to each other over breakfast,
and the sound of a nearby stream:
we’re having lots of rain at the moment, so the streams are in spate,
tumbling down the valley.
An old chap struggles up the hill on his motorbike …
birds sing in the background.
Then a donkey starts braying…
And so the life of our valley continues until dusk.
Wait a minute!
Here is our cockerel and far away, a hunter with his gun…
There is a chorus of twilight barking and then finally, the velvety silence of the night.
The smell of wood smoke, the starry sky and nothing else… apart from the valley menagerie of course…
We wake up early around here…
