Sam Tucker loves adventure and likes to have a purpose when he is cycling from İzmir to Capetown or trekking to the summit of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
How does he do that?
He combines his adventures with raising money for local charities in and around Fethiye, where he lives.
On Turkish Tides
In September Sam, and two of his friends, Doğan Eraslan (previous owner of Mozaik Bahçe) and Serkan Tarim ( Serkan’s Veterinary Practice), will carry out a sponsored sea kayak, paddling from Antalya to Fethiye, a distance of around 500km, which will take approximately three weeks to complete. Sam and Doğan will start from Antalya on 1st September, and will be joined by Serkan in Kaş. They will be raising awareness of the Haydos Animal Shelter ( Hayman Dostları Derneği), which is a no kill shelter for stray dogs and cats run by Türkan Dağdelen. The shelter houses more than 700 dogs and 150 cats and is funded purely on donations from supporters.
Sam has previous experience of sea kayaking; however, Doğan and Serkan are fairly new to it, so will be going through a period of intensive training in preparation for the event.
Trekking to the Roof of the World
Earlier this year Sam trekked to the summit of Kilimanjaro to raise money for the Haydos Animal Shelter. He was delighted when he received photographs and support from children in the Ukraine who had read about his adventure from his Facebook Page, One Man, Many Paths.
Support from around the World
This time Sam has set himself a challenge to see how far he can spread the word and so far there has been a stunning response with messages of support pouring in from 31 countries around the world…
