Turkish Residence Permit for British Citizens in or near Fethiye: Step by Step guide
We've updated our DIY residence permit guide for 2012 and you can find the tried and tested step by step guide here.

Getting Your Turkish Residence Permit in Fethiye
Getting a Turkish residence permit is 'easier' if you know how. Some people use their estate agent or pay someone else to do it for them. In fact there are now a growing number of experts out there waiting to guide you in return for a fee.
But you can do-it-yourself and complete the process in a day if you start at the right place, at the right time, are relatively fit (or have transport) and know where to go (although a basic grasp of Turkish and a lot of patience are needed in the Maliye).
Our easy to print and take guide shows you how to do it and save yourself some money!!
Step by Step Guide for English Citizens 2012
Version 5-2012
Be sure to read through the instructions carefully to make sure you have everything required: photographs etc.
IMPORTANT - The Passport Police may not issue the necessary forms to you if you have more than two weeks on your current Residency or Visa to run. This is intended to save you money. But if you understand that, maybe because you only on a short visit and that is the only time you can get hold of your Residence Pemit then explain that and they will oblige.
It is best to carry everything with you; forms, photocopies etc, as you will be making quite a few, mostly quick, visits, but these can be done at your leisure, or completed in a few hours.
Note that government offices close for lunch any time between 12:00 and 13:30. You will not be able to do any business with them whilst they are closed.www.fethiyetimes.com
You will need:
1. To start with get 8 colour photos (passport size). Also get a couple of black & white photocopies of your rental agreement or Tapu (property deeds if you have them
1. Get 8 colour photos (passport size). Also get a couple of black & white photocopies of your rental agreement or Tapu.
(Opposite the PTT are a couple of photocopy shops and passport photograph shops. From them get 8 colour passport photos (5TL one shop, 8TL the other), a colour photocopy of your passport photo’ page and the page with your last Visa entrance stamp for Turkey).
See No. 9 for other actions you can take to prepare for getting your Residency www.fethiyetimes.com
Then
2. Register with your local Muhtar (2 passport photos, tapu or a rental agreement for name and address, passport to photocopy).
N.B. Reports have come back of people being charged by their Muhtar anywhere from 4TL to 50TL! We have also heard it is supposed to be free, with perhaps a small donation. As at December 2011 Foça Mahallesi Muhtar charged 30TL.
For a list of local Muhtars see this website: http://www.yerelnet.org.tr/belediyeler/index.php?belediyeid=126787
Next
3. Go to the Passport Police (take your Passport).
Don’t forget your Tax Number.
They will give you 2 forms:
a) Kaymakamlak Makamina – this gets ‘stamped’ as you go round. www.fethiyetimes.com
b) Yabancilar Tarafindan Verilecek Ikamet Beyannamasi (Declaration for Residence Visa). See No. 11.
4. Next to the Garanti bank is a small shop where you can purchase a plastic folder for your Residency documents (3.5TL). Tell them it is for Residency. They will not accept any folder.
5. Go to the Tax Office (MALIYE) and pay fees (hop on the Calis dolmus with the name MALIYE on it to get there or walk down the promenade and turn right where the road goes towards the Maliye roundabout and the offices are on your left. Go to the top floor (third floor), turn left and go to the end desk on the right. You will need to provide your tax number and one of the forms from the passport police. You will be given a slip of paper with a number on it.
Then go to ground floor and take a ticket from the machine. Wait in the queue until your ticket number is displayed on the LED screen. Pay for your Residency and collect print out receipt.
6. Go to the Kaymakamlik (between PTT and Migros – the old Court building).
You go in through the side main door, turn left go along the corridor and up the stairs to Office No. 2 (the lady in there will stamp your form and sign it).
7. Fill in residence permit form from the Passport Police: Yabancilar Tarafindan Verilecek İkamet Beyannamasi (Declaration for Residence Visa), if you have not already done so.
8. Take a little rest and maybe reflect on how helpful this guide is. Please don't copy our content, link to it www.fethiyetimes.com w.fethiyetimes.com
9. Now you will need:
a) 2 colour photocopies of first page, and last entry into Turkey page from your passport.
b) Photocopy of Bank statement or Bank Book.
c) Photocopy of rental agreement or Tapu.
d) Photocopy of the Muhtar form.
e) Stiff back folder for all your paperwork .
f) The remainder of your photos (5).
10. You then take all of the above to the Passport Police where they will be checked, and pay for Residency Book (149TL) if you do not have one.
(N.B.: A visa will only be issued for the time left on your passport. If you only have 2 years left on your passport do not apply for 3 or 5 years Residency as you will pay for 3 or 5 and get only 2 years. )
11. They will then send you across the road to ‘Kaptan Office’ to have a 'Yabancilar Tarafindan Verilecek Ikamet form' completed for you: 15TL per person. (Note points 10 and 11 may differ depending on the practices that day but at least the offices are close by).
12. Back to Passport Police who will then tell you how long before your Residency is ready. copied from www.fethiyetimes.com
