Mobile Phone Fraud

The police have issued a leaflet warning about the possibilities of mobile phone fraud.

As part of National Police Week a leaflet has been printed in Turkish warning about the possibilities of mobile phone fraud

Apparently criminals phone people pretending to be police officials/officials in the public prosecutor’s office or even members of the army.

They then engage in a long conversation during which your SIM card is copied.

Once that has been done they can phone anywhere pretending to be you.

Whilst it is clear that this warning has been prepared for the Turkish population, it may be that local foreign residents could also be targeted.

So if you get a suspicious call from someone you don’t know, hang up immediately.
