Turkish Electricity Price Rise on the Cards

The price of electricity in Turkey may rise by as much as ten per cent according to recent reports.

The state run power procurement agency is planning to increase its charges by 21 percent in September according to Turkish newspaper Referans.  This is expected to have a knock-on effect on household users by as much as ten percent.

The procurement agency says it is raising prices because of the exchange rate and higher wholesale prices for electricity.

During 2008 electricity prices in Turkey rose by 60 percent.
