VAT Refunds for Working People to End

Have you ever wondered why Turkish friends ask for your shopping receipts? It’s because the Government introduced a VAT refund scheme to encourage shops and suppliers to issue VAT receipts to individuals and so limit VAT evasion. The refund scheme was initially only open to pensioners but then changed to people working and paying tax. However, the finance minister announced yesterday that they plan to end the scheme in 2008.

We expect the Government will make huge savings just from ending the process of checking and adding up all those receipts!
