Byram Preparations Begin

Kurban Byram, the festival of the sacrifice, starts on Thursday and the local shops are stocked full of sweets, celebration food and gifts ready to tempt the shopper. This weekend has seen Byram fever kick in as shoppers hit the supermarkets and local fresh produce markets to stock up for the 4 day holiday which begins on Thursday and finishes on Sunday.

Our straw poll at the Gunlukbasi (Calis) Market yesterday found that most traders will be taking the whole time off to celebrate and won’t be opening up their stalls for business on Sunday 23 December. So, make sure you stock up this week to avoid shortages.

Of course, with Christmas the following Tuesday ex-pat shoppers and seasonal visitors will need to hunt down another market or supermarket if they want fresh produce after Wednesday. The only market after the Byram and before Christmas Day will be in Hisaronu which is held on Monday’s. If you can’t get to Hisaronu on Monday you can either buy from the supermarkts, Fethiye central market near to the fish market or try the Fethiye Tuesday market which usually has stall holders selling from late Monday afternoon.

Supermarkets and some Bak-Al’s will stay open for the whole holiday period but banks, schools and government offices will be closed.

More details about Kurban Byram can be found in our article here.

Iyi Byramlar!
