Blackout Compensation From Next Year

The Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) will introduce financial penalties for power companies who are responsible for electricity blackouts of more than 14 hours per year without 48 hours prior notice from next year. The annual limit will be cut to 11 hours by the year 2010.

The package of penalties could see refunds of up to 20YTL per customer if power cuts exceed certain upper limits.

The power distribution companies will also have to pay for electric appliances which fail following spikes and or other faults with the supply.
