Local bakers win appeal to increase the price of bread.

Local bakers have won an appeal to increase the price of their bread. A 200g standard loaf will now cost 35 Ykr (14 pence) – an increase of 5 Krs (2 pence). Some supermarkets subsidise the price of bread to attract in customers to buy other goods but local corner shops will sell at the new price.

In comparison an equivalent 800 gram loaf of bread of similar quality in the UK costs around 7 pence per 100 grams, so the price of a Turkish loaf is now the same per gram as the UK. Who’d have thought it!
