Life in Turkey Older British Women with Younger Turkish Men - an explosive combination?

We all hear tales of relationships where an older British woman becomes involved with a Turkish man who is younger, sometimes much younger, and the relationship goes badly wrong. There is often physical abuse and often the woman ends up penniless when the young Turk disappears with all her assets. But how common is this? Or is it just another case of urban myth, something to gossip about over that last drink in the ex-pat bar?
Do woman who find themselves in such a situation ever manage to get any redress?
