ORA was set up in September with the blessing of the Ministry of the Interior in Ankara and the local Kaymakam.  They meet on the first Monday of each month in Churchill's Bar in Hisaronu at 11am and joining costs 10YTL per person per year.  The Mayor of Oludeniz demonstrated his support for the group by attending the last meeting to find out how he could help.

They aim to be a voice for the residents of Ovacik and tackle local issues such as electricity and water problems and, at national level, the high cost of residence permits for British passport holders.  Chair, Peter Tilsley, is currently trying to contact other groups representing foreign residents in Turkey as a first step towards a joint lobby for review of the residence costs - and the bureaucracy surrounding acquisition and renewal.  If anyone reading this knows of any groups please contact Peter on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
