Government Plans to Crack Down on Illegal Employment

The Turkish Government has announced new plans to crack down on illegal employment and the cash-in-hand culture. The new plans aim to boost tax revenue whilst reducing the black economy that loses billions in tax each year. One of the first initiatives will involve the creation of a new computer database that will join all of the key Government bodies such as tax and national insurance with the security forces. The system will enable the authorities to quickly confirm employment details without all of the current delays.

In statement made to the press the social security minister said that their first target will be to significantly reduce the number of foreign illegal workers as they increase unemployment and lead to tax evasion by employers. We expect inspectors and security forces will therefore target the holiday resorts next season for easy pickings.
