Government Remind Provinces of the Animal Protection Law

The Turkish government has sent notices to the all of the governors of Turkey’s 81 provinces, advising them of their legal requirements for the protection of animals and to take measures to put these  obligations into practice to  prevent further violations of animal rights. The Turkish Animal Protection Law came into being in June 2004

A statement released by the Interior Ministry states that reports of mass poisoning campaigns are still being received, despite the recent animal rights protests after the discovery of hundreds of dead animals in many city rubbish tips.   The Governors of all provinces are also being urged to do all they can to improve conditions for animals held in shelters, as many are far from satisfactory.
