Bread on the Coat Hook
A newly formed charity in Fethiye aims to bridge the gap in society between the better off and the not so well off. In the short space of 2 months they have already arranged some charitable work including giving 2 pupils free extra tuition, painting, decorating & repairs in one needy family’s home, paying for medical checks for 3 patients in need and handing out donated books and toys.
They have now brought the national campaign ‘Bread on the Coat Hook’ to Fethiye and it was officially started in the Koprubasi area at Soydemir Bakery by the local Governor, Hasan Karakas, by paying for 100 loaves from his own pocket.
The Governor has also held a meeting with local bakeries to explain the campaign in which more bakeries have expressed their willingness to participate. How does it work: Where you see the ‘Mavi Kus’ sign in the window, you just pay for extra bread whilst buying your own, the bakery puts it in bags on the coat hook in the shop and then the needy come in and collect it, the poor person never meeting his benefactor.
