If there’s one thing we at Fethiye Times miss out here in Fethiye, it is a local English radio station. Well now the dynamic duo Lisette and Carina, aka Special K and Sugar Puff, have joined forced with local radio station Megri FM to bring us a daily radio programme. The show starts at 3:00pm and runs through until 8:00pm each weekday. Fethiye Times visited the studio recently to interview Fethiye’s newest rising radio stars.

Lisette and Carina were inspired to take to the airwaves after, yes you’ve heard it before, a Turkish friend introduced them to a friend, but the twist here was that it was the owner of a local radio station. After an interview and discussion it was agreed that they would fill the afternoon and early evening slot. “It’s been a steep learning curve” said Lisette, “But getting thrown in at the deep-end has worked well and we are now quite skilful at operating all the technology that surrounds us in the studio”. Carina added “Getting the microphone right has been the toughest part for me. Too close and it distorts, too far away and no one can hear. Still I think I’m getting the balance right now but if not ring up and let me know!”

{mosimage}The 5 hour daily show is split between the two DJ’s. Lisette plays up beat and up-to-date chart hits until around 5pm, and then Carina slows the tempo down with classic hits until around 7:30 when the musical pace picks up again for the final half hour. And, of course, there lots of chat and information in between the tracks. Listeners can also phone in or email their music requests (see contact details at the end).

We asked what plans the couple had for the show over the winter. Lisette replied “We hope to attract guests to the studio for chat and discussion and also plan to run competitions from time to time, too. So make sure you tune in every day to keep in touch with our latest developments”.

The Sugar Puff and Special K radio show can be found on Megri FM, 97.1 FM between 3:00pm and 8:00pm every day. The radio station can be picked up over most of the area and as far away as Gocek, but Oludeniz and some parts of Hisaronu are currently unable to pick up the signal because of the topography. The station will also be broadcast on the internet early in 2008 for those of you out of range and more details will follow.
