Digiturk viewers lost the Discovery Channel a few months ago but it’s now appeared for free on the Turksat 2a satellite at 42 degrees East. This satellite is very popular with Turkish people because of its free to air Turkish channels.

Discovery has made three of its channels free to viewers – Discovery Channel, Discovery Civilisation and Discovery Science. When we checked the channels a few days ago the main Discovery channel was broadcast in Turkish with no English language option available but the other 2 channels were in English.

The Turksat satellite also has a few other channels that broadcast programmes in their original language (often English). These include CNBC-e, E2 and The Business Channel.

Satellite systems to pick up free to air channels including a dish are available in Migros and other local shops for around £80.
