Introduction

Gardening

Welcome to the gardening pages of Fethiye Times.com. Read our introduction first HERE and then follow our monthly guides.

Judging from the number of small plant centres in Fethiye there are many British gardeners now living in the area. In this section we aim to produce a monthly guide to what you should be doing in the garden.

As all gardeners will be aware, the seasons are very different here to the UK. In fact as our first monthly guide is for April we have already missed the Turkish equivalent of the busy ‘spring’ season. A few local timings are listed below:

  • February – if you have a lawn now is the time to apply a slow release fertiliser.

  • February is also the month to prune.

  • December – February is the best time for transplanting trees and established plants.

  • By the middle of March you should have completed all your new plantings of container grown herbaceous perennials.

  • Seeds – sowing can start in mid-March and continue through April except vegetable seeds.

  • Vegetable seeds can be planted from the end of February.
