A surprising 14 new members turned up at the Yakamoz Hotel for May’s meeting of the Gardening Club, and they were not disappointed.  Three gardens were visited:  Yakamoz Hotel, a typical Turkish village garden next door, and the lovely garden of Bill Worthington a short walk away.  

The Hotel garden is looking lovely at the moment thanks to some hard work by Jan and Mike over the past few weeks.  Not to mention Mike’s sister Sue who thought she was coming out for a holiday and ended up planting 240 marigolds, amongst other gardening tasks.  It was wonderful to see changes in the garden since the Club held its inaugural meeting there last September – and there will no doubt be a rash of painted terracotta pots amongst Club members.

The Turkish garden next door is tended by Sadik and not only does he produce an amazing array of fruit and vegetables, but also grows flowers and clearly revels in their colour and scent.  Sadik generously picked large quantities of fresh broad beans which were snapped up by members.

Bill’s garden has an interesting array of cactus as well as one of the healthiest, most attractive herb gardens I’ve yet to see here.  This included a beautiful variegated sage which started life as a ‘growing herb’ in Migros. 

Altogether it was a very enjoyable afternoon with a large array of ‘free’ plants for members to take home.  Thank you to all the gardeners who let us tramp around and watch this space for the Club’s programme for September – December.
