Good turn out for the first meeting of the new season when lecturers in the University’s Landscaping & Horticulture Department gave us a presentation on growing fruit trees.  Plus provided an excellent interpreter, the lovely Muazez, from their English Language Department. 

Notes were taken and should be here on the website in the form of a Fact Sheet within the next few days.  What’s more, following on from yesterday’s talk, we shall have a practical grafting workshop in Uzumlu next spring – so join the Gardening Club if you want to be able to amaze your friends and neighbours with a tree that produces both lemons and oranges.  All gardeners reading this will have no doubt noticed the Turkish obsession with grafting, which is so alien to us British gardeners.  In a few months’ time we, too, should be expert grafters.

Next month, on 3rd October, we are going to the new Cepkan Nursery in Ortaca by bus with fare of 5YTL for members and 7.50YTL for others who’d like to come along.  As we need to know what size of coach to book we’ve put a deadline on booking of Friday, 22nd September.  So please e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you’d like to come along.  Cepkan are major nursery owners/plant producers in this part of the world (and do landscaping for the Turkish rich and famous on the Bodrum peninsula).  We visited their main production nursery at Gokova in April and next month’s visit is to their new production site in Ortaca where they grow Mediterranean climate plants.  The bus will leave Migros at 1pm and be back by 5 – so a nice afternoon out for us all.
