This month, the Gardening Club was treated to an impressive veg patch and some lovely cakes!

Pauline and Les stepped into the breach and hosted the meeting at their home in Uzumlu.

Feb Gardening Club Meeting

As they had already pruned their trees and vines the pruning demonstration was cancelled, although when we arrived a large venerable almond tree was in the process of being drastically pruned due to a very recent discovery of beetle infestation.

Les has an immaculately maintained vegetable plot which, through much hard work and copious amounts of horse manure, has produced a wonderful tilth and lots of earthworms.

Les dug up an impressive row of celery to distribute amongst the members.

Pauline did us proud with the catering with several delicious homemade cakes and biscuits to choose from.

The cakes were good too!

At the moment we are short of a venue for the meeting in May and also need some ideas for the autumn programme.

Next Meeting, Next Week – Wednesday 2 March – 2pm

Could members put their thinking caps on and bring their ideas to the next meeting to be held at Chris and Steve Bohane’s house in Kayakoy – directions below.

This meeting will be an informal get together with a light hearted quiz.

Finally, last but not least, we welcome the new members to the club and hope we will become good gardening friends!

Directions to the Bohane’s

Coming from Fethiye

Take the road to Kaya which goes up the hill past the castle and the Kale Park Restaurant. The road goes over the mountain and down into the Kaya valley. As you come down the hill into the valley look for the very first house on the left which is a white washed cottage with wooden cladding and blue window shutters. Turn right opposite this house (VERY sharp turning) and continue along the road for about 1Km and you will pass some stone sarcophagi. Our house is the first on the right behind a very large high stone wall and the driveway is at the far end.

Coming from Hisaronu

Take the road to Kaya and continue on the road pass the ghost town until you come to a small roundabout in the centre of the village. Turn right and continue along this road, over the bridge and past a small mosque and drinking fountain on your right. A short distance further on, on the right, just before the road starts to climb out of the valley there is a white washed cottage with wooden cladding and blue window shutters. This is the last house on the right before you leave the valley. Turn left opposite this house and continue along the road for about 1Km and you will pass some stone sarcophagi. Our house is the first on the right behind a very large high stone wall and the driveway is at the far end.

If you get lost look for the sign posts to the Kaya Wine house. We are a couple of minutes walk from the wine house and our house is on the northern side of the valley
