The Fethiye Times Gardening Club meeting was held on 4th March at Villa Lavanta in Ovacık, and many thanks to David and Stuart for being such wonderful hosts.
Not only did they provide a large cold buffet, but there were also barbecued ‘hamsi’ (whitebait) a traditional Turkish delicacy.
David gave an account of the development of their now mature garden over the past 8 years and for this writer, and I am sure many other Club members, it is heartening to discover that you are not alone in overcoming a myriad problems when trying to establish a garden here.
The Bring and Buy Plant Sale raised 194TL in a very short time.
Thanks to everyone who brought, and bought, plants.
We shall do this again at a future meeting.
And to round off the afternoon David had prepared a quiz sheet on which you had to match common plant names with their botanical Latin equivalent.
The winners actually got them all right – but it was only with a major joint effort.
Trip to Antalya
April’s meeting is an overnight trip to Antalya to visit landscaping and planting works there and also a large nursery.
There are still some places on this trip which costs 90TL per person for transport, dinner, bed and breakfast.
Any members who weren’t at the March meeting and would like to come on the trip please e-mail Suze@fethiyetimes.com.
We will be opening the trip to non-members if we still have places in a week or so.
