How would you like to be Mr or Ms Ŧ#305;plak – which means nude or naked? Maybe there are Brits with the surname ‘nude’ or ‘naked’ but we never met one.

Or the intriguing surname Soğangöz – translates literally as ‘onion eye’.

Or Sertbaş – which means ‘hard head’.

This writer’s surname (gained by marriage) is Temiz which means ‘clean’. A female friend has the surname Parlak which means shining. We have toyed with the idea of opening a cleaning agency ‘Temiz & Parlak’ but there is one great problem – housework is anathema to both of us.
