Marmaris Dogs Home - give a dog a home!

After lots of hard work, community fundraising and support from the local Council the excellent new Marmaris Council Dogs Home opened on 12 December 2005. Since then the home has seen hundreds of stray, injured, lost or otherwise unwanted dogs pass through its doors.

But it seems that few people are aware that they can go along to the dogs home and select a four footed friend to take home.  If you would like to own your 'best friend' then the procedure is very simple.  All you have to do is go along and choose a suitable dog. At the moment there are 80 dogs in residence and apart from the mixed breeds there are several pedigrees including Spaniels, Cocker Spaniels, Doberman, Alsatian, Border Collies, Hunting dogs and Retrievers. Once you've selected a dog give your name, address and telephone number to the staff and Bob’s your uncle!  There is no money involved.  Of course, to donate a bag of dog food or some bones from the butcher would be nice to help towards the continual care of the remaining residents, but it's not obligatory.

If you want to support the dogs home or otherwise get involved there are two societies who'd love to hear from you:

Animal Lovers Society
Asuman Koprulu - President
Tel: 417 0234
Animal Protection Society
Deniz Nicholls - President

The Dogs Home has two full time staff and one full time vet. Bora Deveci is the vet and he would like to remind pet owners that if you have to abandon your pet then at least have it sterilised or neutered before you let it go - at least that way it will stop more homeless and hungry dogs wandering the streets. And of course much more preferable than just leaving the animal to fend for itself on the streets you can of course bring it along to the Dogs Home and they will take it in.

A donation would be much appreciated if you have to leave your dog at the home but donations can take the form of money, old blankets, dog food, old fridges or freezers, medical supplies or anything that might help the place keep going.
