It was a busy weekend for the Calis Carnival Committee with a wine tasting evening on Friday evening and the ever popular car boot sale on Sunday.

Wine Tasting Evening

Despite a power cut that left the venue for the event in darkness until 10 minutes before the start everything was laid out by 7pm.

Two wine companies generously provided samples of their wines to the 95 people who attended.

Kavaklidere brought the full range of their wines including their little known, to us anyway,  sherry and port wines.

The local vineyard and vintners Clos Pinara brought samples of their locally produced wine.

Their vineyard is located in the village of Demirler Köyü off the Kemer -  Kalkan Road and is stocked with 30,000 French vines imported back in 2003 and grown on their large vineyard.

Car Boot

Despite the cold air another 70 stall holders turned out for the ever popular car boot sale.

Buyer and sellers are turning up earlier and earlier to secure a good pitch or a bargain and many stalls were already set up by 7pm.

Some people, such as the couple pictured, have taken the car boot to the next level by bringing a trailer loaded with things to sell.

One Turkish gentleman walking back to his car around 7:15 holding an arm full of goods he had just bought no doubt for a few Lira was heard to say the Turkish equivalent of “The early bird catches the worm”.

The guy pictured was most pleased to have bought this bow and arrow set and proudly posed for the photo.
