After the bureaucratic jungle I ploughed through a few weeks ago to renew the car’s visa, on 16th February I set out to have the exhaust emissions tested.
The test centre is a white building at the back of the Goksullar Citroen dealership. To get to it take the cobbled street alongside the canal from the traffic lights at Migros, and it is just before the temporary bus station.
And getting the test done is a doddle. A young guy places a sensor in the exhaust pipe, asks you to turn on your engine and, in less than 60 seconds, says ‘Tamam’. You then go inside the white building with your car papers and another man issues a new test certificate, pay him 17YTL and you are legal for another year. Perhaps some cars fail the test, but none did in the fifteen minutes or so I was there and it is definitely not worth paying a takipci (agent) to get this test done for you.
