By working together two Çalış charities were able to provide a small village school received much needed equipment.

Last November members of the Çalış Children’s Charity and their associated Çalış charity ‘Embrace’ visited Temel village school; a poor outlying Fethiye school located several kilometers from Eren Dag mountain and the new Seki ski centre.

The 3 room school which has 25 children aged between 5 and 7 had approached the Çalış Children’s Charity (formerly the Çalış Carnival Fundraising Committee) with a request for help in providing much needed equipment, educational toys and furniture of which the school had very little.

After seeing the school and meeting the children and staff both charities decided to join together in a joint project to provide assistance to the school. Last week they took delivery of over 4,500 TL (£1,800) worth of equipment including classroom and garden furniture, playground equipment, a Wendy house, lots of educational toys and puzzles, writing materials, books and other much needed items.

All of these items together with a donated television will be delivered to the school when it reopens after the holiday period this week.

Seki Temel School is one of nine projects being funded by the ‘3C’s’ charity from the proceeds raised during their 2010 fundraising year which culminated with the third Çalış Carnival held last May.

They have already provided 18 double desks for Yusuf İzzet Gocte School and three ceiling mounted projectors for Kargi Sehit, Nif Arpacik and Valı Recci Gureli Schools.

This is in addition to providing 10 bursaries to help 10 poor students to attend university which they have been committed to providing for the last 3 years.

The remaining five projects are well underway and details will be announced in the next few weeks.

Both the ‘3C’s’ and ‘Embrace’ would like to thank everybody who have donated to, or supported their charities in any way and made this latest school project possible.
