Nine hardy souls braved the cold January water in Çalış on New Year’s Day to raise money for Çalış Children’s Charity (3C’s).

The New Year’s Day splash has become a favourite for many who enjoy the spectacle of people in fancy dress taking a dip in the chilly winter sea at Çalış Beach.

The splashers were cheered on by spectators for the five minutes they have to stay up to their necks in the water.

The splashers were sponsored by family and friends to take part, with Gareth Patten (The Bride) raising a fantastic 2000TL. A further 484 TL was raised from generous donations.

Gareth also won the prize for the best fancy dress.

The money raised will provide help for sick and underprivileged children in the local area.
