Changes at the top
(No it’s not Santa! He’ll definitely be here again)
Our headline story is about the founder members of the 3C’s Children’s charity, Peter and Chrissie Clark. The hard working couple recently retired from their positions on the 3C’s committee after eight years in office.
Peter has been chairman of the local charity from its inception when, under the name of the Çalış Carnival Committee, they helped organize the original Çalış Carnivals. His right hand woman and wife, Chrissie, has been secretary of the committee since the beginning. Recently, she has being sharing the working with Jan Freeman, who is also standing down from some of her secretarial duties.
Quite a surprise
These announcements, a surprise for many, were made at last week’s Annual General Meeting of the charity when the treasurer Liz Burton announced that the charity had made a record breaking 110, 769TL in 2015 – that’s an impressive 8,000TL more than last year.
Thanking everyone for their hard work and support over the years Peter Clark said,
Chrissie and I have really enjoyed our time with the Carnival and the 3Cs committee, but things move on. We have met some wonderful, inspirational people and we won’t forget our years with the 3C’s. But, we came out here to retire and have so many more things to do and places to see before we’re past it! I hope that our legacy continues and wish those who take over the reins all success.
Mark Pietsch, and long-standing committee member Mick McCauley will jointly share the position of Chairman for 2016. Mark is also no newcomer to the work as he was vice-chairman of the original Çalış Carnival Committee for a number of years. The secretarial tasks will be devolved amongst various members of the committee with Jan Freeman continuing to take on some of the major tasks. Liz Burton was re-elected as Treasurer, Cathy Harrower as shop manager and Julia Bailey as shop secretary. The position of Schools and Organizations’ Liaison Officer will be shared between Mark Pietsch, Mick Mc Cauley and Ulla Kleinhaus-Koch.
A full financial report together with details of all projects and activities undertaken in 2015 will be contained in the charity’s Annual Report, which will be issued next month.
Changes for time of Çalış Car Boot Sales
The start time of the Çalış Car Boot Sales has changed. Sellers will now be asked not to set up their stalls in the car park until 8.00 am and the sale will be open to buyers as from 9.00 am. These new times will come into effect as from the next sale on Sunday 25 October.
After meeting with Fethiye Zabita, members of the 3C’s children’s charity who organize the popular sales agreed to change the times as stallholders were arriving earlier and earlier. The change has the full support of the Zabita who will be attending the sale. All the stallholders who attended the first sale of the season in September were advised of the change.
If you know anyone who attends the sales, either as a buyer or as a seller, please could you pass on this information?

Record crowds and record rewards at ‘Rod’ night
Record crowds, and a record amount was raised for charity, at the ‘Rod Stewart’ tribute evening in Çalış last month.
Superstar ‘Rod Stewart’, aka holidaymaker Stuart MacDonald, was back in Çalış for the second time this year and was performing at Lees Bar to raise money for the 3C’s children’s charity.
Over 500 people packed into Lees Bar, the two adjoining restaurants and thronged the promenade to listen to the gravelly voiced Scottish crooner’s lookalike and soundalike tribute act.
Stuart performed his socks off, offering almost three hours of top notch entertainment as he performed Rod’s well known hit singles from the early 60’s to the Great American Songbook, and his authentic and energetic tribute to Rod not only had people rocking in the aisles but dancing on the promenade.
Although the evening’s entertainment was free, the children’s charity held a raffle and passed around their collecting bucket and raised a magnificent 2,881TL for the children – a record amount for a “Rod” evening.
And for those that missed him, there was a second chance to see him, as he was due to give a final performance at Lees last Friday evening.
The 3C’s would like to thank both Stuart and Lee for helping to raise lots of money for their charity.
3C’s Charity Shop to Relocate
The 3C’s charity shop is relocating from the Eyna Restaurant on promenade to new premises in Koca Çalış village as from the beginning of November.
The new shop, which forms part of the new Tom London’s Restaurant (formerly the Kara-At/Black Horse restaurant), is located in the village centre opposite the turning to Guven’s Bar. It is easily accessible as it is on the main dolmuş route from Fethiye to Çalış (the Çalış dolmuş station is just around the corner) and the municipality buses stop two minutes walk away.
The charity have had to temporarily relocate to the new premises, as the Eyna Restaurant is closing from 1 November to undergo major building work over the winter months. It will reopen as a boutique hotel and restaurant next season.
The new shop premises is Koca Çalış is light and airy and customers will still be able to enjoy a coffee and a chat with friends as the restaurant next door will be opening shortly. The charity shop opening hours will remain the same, Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays, from 11:00 (11am) to 14:00 (2pm).
The charity welcomes all customers, old and new, and there will be a grand opening of the new shop, so please watch this space for full details.
