FIG committee changes

As many of you will know, there have been some changes in our committee line-up.

We have lost some members but we are slowly gaining others.

Martin Bradley, who was our treasurer for just over two years, resigned on December 10th.

He was followed by Helen Acar, a committee member for approximately 3 years, who resigned on 12th December.

Kevin Duke and Faruk Öztürk, neither who have been with us long, have also resigned.

Additionally Terry Harrop, as previously reported, resigned on 29th December.

Many thanks for past services to all the above.

Helen Kuşkiran, when she returns from the UK, will be a co-opted member, and Jill Erdoğan has returned to the committee.

She will also be a co-opted member of FIG, responsible for liaising with schools and for craft fairs.

School visits

Kayaçık School

On Tuesday 12th February, Jill Erdoğan and Sheila Tongue, accompanied by Sue and Türkay Tekin, visited Kayaçık School.

FIG have previously given help to this school, but felt that another visit was warranted.

Their playground has a 50 metre boundary along one side, ending in a sheer drop, and the school felt it was very dangerous,

and they had already built a retaining wall together with an edging suitable for installing railings.

The playground also has no shade or cover, and they were anxious to rectify that as well if possible.

To cut a long story short, everything is on order, and the committee and friends will visit when everything is installed.

We noticed the sobas were in a truly dangerous state, and were definitely health and safety hazards, so we subsequently ordered 2 new ones with fireguards.

We are really grateful to Sue and Türkay for helping us – without them discussing the design specifications would have proved impossible.

Girmeler and Bağilağac

We plan to visit both these schools and will report back on this visit in a few weeks.

  1. just to let you know that the Fethiye runners all done very well in the 10th Runatolia race in Antalya last Sunday the 1st March. Peter Simpson from Uzulmlu came 1st in the marathon for his age group, while Steve Williams of Calis came 3rd in the half marathon for his age group and an impressive 75th overall, & Patricia Meldrum also of Calis was the 3rd female in her age group. All in all Fethiye could be proud of their runners as in the half marathon there were a total of 3500 runners from all over Turkey Germany and even the USA

    • Thanks Janet, We have already scheduled a story about our Fethiye champions next week but thanks for getting the story out there. Great news, isn’t it?
